Proof that all kitties no matter what size love chin scratches

title or description

The other day I came across a bunch of photos of this guy playing around with lionesses, lions and hyenas and I really thought they were photoshopped but it turns out that they aren't!!

His name is Kevin Richardson (no, not the Backstreet boy) and he is an animal behaviorist who works with lions and other wild animals without the use of force and he becomes members of their prides and they have all this trust in him, enough to even play with him, groom him and let him near their cubs.

I don't have words for his. You have to see it to understand how much my jaw dropped.

Lionesses begging him for piggyback rides (for real)

A lioness with cubs allowing him to love her new cubs (which is just INSANE)

Him swimming around with a lioness

I want to hug a lion.

I wonder what they smell like...? Do you think kitty-like or more like giant dogs?

Hah! I was actually wondering that too. A mix of both?

I really wonder if they purr as well.

They can, actually! I can't remember where I read that, but they do. *Googling*

Awww!

Yeah I had just googled it as well after I posted that :D.

It seems the science community is all broken up over it heh. Here is another quote I found:

http://www.lairweb.org.nz/tiger/big.html states that ‘big cats' differ from ‘small cats' because pf the hyoid bone, which connects the tongue to the roof of the mouth. The hyoid bone has an elastic segment in big cats, but is hard all over in small cats. The elastic segment allows big cats to roar, but prevents them from purring in the same manner small cats can. Small cats can purr when they inhale and exhale, but big cats can only produce a 'purring' type of noise, when they exhale.

I would prefer to think they do because that would just be awesome.

Thank you for sharing that. I always wondered if I didn't miss my true calling in life by living with people instead of with animals. They make so much more sense to me and I think, much like some great women in the field who worked with apes (I can never remember the name of the Belgian who worked with the orangutans), that I could have been good at it.

This is so cool.

Oh, I feel the same way to some extent. I had actually entertained the notion of becoming a Vet for a while until I realized that there are very few schools that actually offer that and none near NYC! The happiest I think I was at a job was for the animal medical center I worked for. Too bad they pay so little :(.
